Last-minute cultural fair

Mind maps made the presentation possible

Developing two cultural fair projects in just four days was possible thanks to mind maps.

The problem

A cultural fair at a school in Brasília will take place. Four days before the presentation, two teams had only done the project. The themes were Seduction and Soccer, both with a focus on Natural Sciences.

The teacher-coordinator asked for help, and I decided to use mind maps.

The definition of the process

The first approach involved mapping the content myself and the teacher started printing the fonts. When it was already about 40 pages long, I saw that it wouldn't work and that's when we adopted a collaborative strategy, in which the teacher acted as a content writer and I as a mapper.

The solution

In three sessions of a few hours, it was possible to map all the relevant content for each project, the author with the knowledge of mind maps and the software (at the time it was MindMapper), the teacher managing the content. One of the mind maps would be displayed on a wall and was enlarged and printed on 1 square meter.

The photo below shows one of the teams, whose theme was football.

To make a long story short, I insert the following statements:

Teacher: "Without mind maps it would have been impossible to work on so much content in the time available. If mind maps had been applied from the design stage, a lot of non-relevant content would have been filtered out and a lot of time and effort saved."

Student, coordinator of one of the teams: "The mind map not only helped to prepare the work and distribute the topics among the participants, but also to organize the ideas for the presentation. Teachers should use mind maps."
